The Burning Man Festival in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. Who’s been there and is it worth going?
Answer by yourface
i have not personally been, but one of my best friends has. she’s really into all that, and she thought it would be an amazing experience, but she said it was crap and the biggest waste of her time…i thought it sounded pretty cool too and i was going to go with her teh next year, but she said it was shit, so i guess i won’t be going. my recommendation based off hers, is to not…but it never hurts to check things out for yourself…
Center Stage Management (CSM) embarked on a mission to develop and bring a full fledge rock festival to the Middle East. The first annual Desert Rock Concert featured two rock bands, The Rasmus and Juliana Down. The headliner, Limp Bizkit cancelled their appearance 48 hours before the show, allegedly because frontman Fred Durst felt nsafe coming to the region. Despite the cancellation (10,000 tickets had been sold) some 3,500 fans attended.
Dubai Desert Rock developed into a full day festival and featured well-known rock bands from around the world, including The Darkness, Machine Head, Sepultura and Within Temptation, which, together with two local rock bands Juliana Down & Nervecell played for an audience of more than 6,000 people. DDRF has now become internationally known as The Middle East Annual Rock Festival.
Dubai Desert Rock showcased its most renowned line-up yet, consisting of Testament, Reel Big Fish, 3 Doors Down, Megadeth, and local Dubai band Mannikind. Due to a conflict between the UAE’s moral codes and the lyrics of Saxon’s “Crusader” the band was not allowed to partake in the festival. The gates opened at 3:00 PM, and the last performance ended at approximately 12:30 AM. The additional attractions to keep fans busy and entertained throughout the day included, among other things, a skatepark show, hair designers, temporary airbrush tattoo artists, graffiti boards for budding artists to make their mark, cars customized and on display inspired by MTV’s hit TV show “Pimp My Ride” and several vendors.
For the 2007 installment of Dubai Desert Rock Festival the following bands performed:
Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation
The year 2008 marked the festival’s 5th anniversary and was the biggest rock festival to be held in Dubai to date.
The festival was held in Dubai Festival City. There was a 50m suspended bar in the air as a world premiere.

The Crucible, West Oaklands leading industrial arts center, is accepting vendor applications for its annual Playa Bound: Sale & Open House. The event, which gives vendors an opportunity to sell goods for Burning Man and beyond, benefits participating artists and The Crucibles arts education programs.
Playa Bound: Sale & Open House, a family-friendly event, features dozens of vendors selling handmade crafts, desert costumes, camping supplies, bikes, furniture, glass and metal creations, and more. Also featuring fiery performances, youth activities, and industrial arts demonstrations, the event is a wonderful way to support local artists and arts education.
Vendors are encouraged to apply by June 7, 2014. The Crucible will give special consideration to those selling work that fits with The Crucibles classes (e.g. metalwork, jewelry, neon, ceramics, etc), and crafts and supplies geared toward the Burning Man event this August/September in the Black Rock City desert.

In the videos we keep seeing people without clothes but is it really that hot?
Answer by Roamer
Sometimes it’s very hot and sometimes it’s really cold. It’s a desert!
It’s not an uncomfortable heat though, because off the low humidity you’re not bathing in sweat. Don’t get me wrong, you still sweat buckets but it normally evaporates straight away. This is why those around you should constantly remind you to drink small amounts very often to replace the lost fluids.
For me, the altitude is the killer because if I’m even slightly dehydrated then the high altitude turns my brain to mush.
It’s normally in the mid-80s to late 90s F. The temperature in the saunas (porta-potties) is another matter!
